Today we are announcing the full migration of the MOVR token to Base. Moonriver has been one of the most active and battle-tested canary networks in the Polkadot ecosystem, and the community that built it can support it in its next phase of life. Here’s what they need to do before July 31, 2026.
The migration is 1:1, the bridge is open now. Please read the action steps below carefully.
What You Need to Do — Before July 31
The MOVR bridge is open now. All existing MOVR holders must bridge their tokens from Moonriver to Base before July 31, 2026. The migration is 1:1 every MOVR you hold today becomes one Base ERC-20 MOVR. There is no fee to migrate.Because the migration bridge contract lives on Moonbeam, moving MOVR to Base takes two steps instead of one: first, an XCM transfer moves your MOVR from Moonriver into its Moonbeam-side representation, xcMOVR (hop 1). Then, the same migration bridge you'd use for GLMR locks that xcMOVR on Moonbeam and relays to Base ERC-20 MOVR (hop 2). Both steps are implemented as part of the official migration portal.
Before you bridge, make sure to withdraw any funds you have deployed in protocols on the Moonriver chain including liquidity positions, lending markets, staking contracts, and any other DeFi protocols. Once the chain winds down, funds left in on-chain protocols may become permanently inaccessible. Exit your positions first, then bridge.
Holding MOVR on a centralized exchange? You do not need to do anything. Your exchange will handle the migration automatically. Watch for direct communication from your exchange confirming the switchover date.
