Users and Developers Will Have Access to Statistics and Data on Moonscan, Giving Insight into Moonbeam and Moonriver Networks

Singapore – October 26, 2021 – MoonbeamGo to page https://moonbeam.network/, the Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform on Polkadot, announced an integration with EtherscanGo to page https://etherscan.io/, a block explorer and analytics platform for EVM-compatible chains. This integration brings the most widely-used EVM compatible block explorer to MoonriverGo to page https://moonbeam.network/networks/moonriver/ and Moonbeam. This instance of Etherscan (on Moonbase Alpha, Moonriver, and Moonbeam) will be called Moonscan, and will leverage Etherscan’s comprehensive feature set and unmatched reliability.

Through Moonscan, users and developers will now have access to developer tools and network statistics that provide granular insights into the EVM of Moonriver and Moonbeam. Developers will be able to see a broad range of statistics and charts related to smart contract execution, collator data, specific transfers between tokens, and a list of ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens on Moonriver and Moonbeam. Users will also be able to view transactions and individual blocks.

More importantly, developers can now verify their smart contracts. Smart contract verification is a critical capability for EVM-based blockchains. Verification is the way that developers can publish what contracts on the blockchain are actually doing. It allows end users to inspect contracts before they interact with them. This is particularly important when it comes to permissionless environments like Moonbeam. Anyone can deploy smart contracts to Moonbeam, so having the tools to verify what those contracts are doing is a very important part of security and safety onchain. Moonscan will also have a smart contract comparison tool to analyze the differences between contracts.

Last but not least, Moonscan will also provide a set of developer-oriented APIs on Moonriver and Moonbeam. These APIs are REST-based and provide a simple and elegant alternative to the public node RPC-based APIs that are currently available. Developers can use the APIs as an alternative way to get at Ethereum logs and other data efficiently due to the indexed data stores that power Moonscan.

Moonscan is a significant step forward for Etherscan, as it represents an expansion to the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystem. Polkadot’s unique architecture will provide new use cases for both developers and users through native cross-chain interoperability powered by the XCMP protocol. This integration will also allow Etherscan to tap into Dotsama’s users and developers.

Founder & CEO of Etherscan, Matthew Tan, explains, “We are looking forward to supporting Moonbeam and Moonriver and extending our vision of providing equitable access to blockchain data to their ecosystem.”

These features will put Moonriver and Moonbeam on the same level as other EVM compatible chains such as Polygon, Binance, Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Fantom, amongst others.

“Etherscan has been one of the top requested integrations for many months now from our community,” said Derek Yoo, Founder of Moonbeam. “This is not surprising, given that it is the gold standard in the market for EVM block explorers. Etherscan’s comprehensive feature set combined with the high reliability of the platform make it an essential addition to the Moonbeam and Moonriver networks. We look forward to working with the Etherscan team to advance both developer and end user adoption in our ecosystem.”

The Moonbeam team will be supporting the Etherscan team to add additional functionalities over time that are specific to Moonriver/Moonbeam—for example, tapping into the Substrate layer, which would give Moonscan an overview of what is happening in staking, governance, and Polkadot-native cross chain interactions. This would create a unified block explorer capable of understanding all of the activity within the Moonbeam platform and ecosystem.

The first instance of Moonscan is now live on Moonbase AlphaGo to page https://moonbase.moonscan.io/ and MoonriverGo to page https://moonriver.moonscan.io/. This version will be fully functional with the features already available on other EVM compatible chains such as Polygon or BSC.

About the Moonbeam Network

Moonbeam is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform on the Polkadot network that makes it easy to build natively interoperable applications. This Ethereum compatibility allows developers to deploy existing Solidity smart contracts and DApp frontends to Moonbeam with minimal changes. As a parachainGo to page https://moonbeam.network/education/what-is-a-parachain/ on the Polkadot network, Moonbeam will benefit from the shared security of the Polkadot relay chain and integrations with other chains that are connected to Polkadot. Currently, in active development by PureStake, Moonbeam is expected to reach MainNet by Q4 of 2021.
